KAKINADA: Demoralised by the rout in recent Assembly and Lok Sabha elections, the district Congress is pinning its hopes on its new DCC chief Kandula Durgesh. The former MLC Durgesh will assume office as East Godavari DCC president on Monday.
The new DCC chief is taking charge at a time when the party is in complete disarray and hardly a handful of people heed the call for any party programme or agitation. Many senior leaders have left the party for greener pastures or in a silent mode.
The second-rung leaders are in a depression and are not interested to spend their time or money for the party programmes. Party cadre say that Mr Durgesh should starting his innings at ‘zero’ and revive the cadre from ground level. However, Mr Durgesh insists that the party had a good cadre, but, they were in a state of inaction.
“I will give instil confidence and enthusiasm among the cadre, leaders and the people by explaining facts to them and bring back the old glory to the party,” he said. He added that that he would tour constituencies and build up the cadre and would constitute executive body of the committee after taking permission from PCC.
