Visakhapatnam: Andhra University will play host to the prestigious IIM Vizag that is expected to start activities from the ensuing academic year. The government had decided to start the institute in the backward region as a post-bifurcation sop from the current academic year.
But, it was delayed and now it would start functioning from the next academic year.
Currently, there are 13 IIMs in the country and six more will come up in 2015 in Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra, Odisha, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. Central teams have been visiting various places in the district to scout for suitable land for the institution.
A five-member team also visited Anandapuram mandal a couple of days ago. Andhra University Vice Chancellor Prof. G.S.N. Raju said, “We were asked to provide temporary accommodation for the IIM on the campus. We are proud that the region will be getting such a prestigious institution.”
The varsity had allocated a new building that was constructed and donated by the Andhra Bank.
Varsity officials are also ready to provide experienced faculty members even for academic activity as part of extending support.
