Congress MLAs suspended
MLAs wanted debate on violation of anti-defection law
Hyderabad: Thirteen Congress MLAs were suspended from the Telangana Legislative Assembly for a day on Tuesday after they stalled the proceedings of the House over the defections issue.
Marshals were called in to physically evict the MLAs after they refused to leave.
The Congress on Tuesday moved an adjournment motion on the issue and demanded a discussion over the violation of the anti-defection law and also of the Constitution by the TRS government, which was disallowed by Speaker S. Madhusudhana Chary.
As soon as the House commenced, Congress members, sporting black badges and holding placards, stormed the podium demanding the Speaker to initiate a debate on defections.
Minister for legislative affairs T. Harish Rao, said, “Congress members are raising the issue, which is no way connected with the House. The issue of defections is already pending with the Speaker. He will conduct an inquiry and take a final decision.”
Leader of Opposition K. Jana Reddy said, “We want the Speaker to take a quick decision.” “The government has lost all rights to continue in office as it is encouraging defections,” Mr Reddy added.
Failing to pacify the agitating the Congress members, Mr T. Harish Rao moved a resolution to suspend 13 agitating Congress members for a day, which was approved by the Speaker.
