Separate bio-urinals for women and children in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Bio-urinals, exclusively for women and children, will be set up in the Greater Hyderabad jurisdiction by the corporation. Similar to the men’s toilets, these will be equipped with a self-cleaning mechanism.

They too will be solar energy-powered, but will also be equipped with traditional power back-ups in case of emergencies. The usage will be free of cost.

Somesh Kumar, the GHMC commissioner, said, “Tenders will soon be called for the modernised toilets, which will be exclusively for the women and children. Sites will be identified for their installation. Bus stations, railway junctions as well as the IT corridor will get these toilets.”

The aim of the initiative is to end open-air urination.
