Vizag Naval mishap: Wreck of TRV A-72 recovered
Video footage of the wreck was obtained with the help of a remotely operated vessel
New Delhi: The wreck of the naval Torpedo Recovery Vessel (TRV A-72) — that had sunk off the Visakhapatnam coast earlier this month — has been located at a depth of 370 metres. Video footage of the wreck was obtained with the help of a remotely operated vessel on Tuesday.
A statement by the Indian Navy said, “The wreck was found in an upright position. Footage will be examined to determine further course of action.”
The sinking of the vessel had claimed one sailor’s life while four other Navy personnel had gone missing. The worst is being feared regarding the four missing personnel since the Navy has not been able to locate them so far despite a massive search operation.
The video footage will be examined and is expected to help the Navy in its inquiry on the accident.
Cracks in the seals attached to the shaft of TRV A-72, allowed in sea- water, had been indicated as the main cause of the accident.
