Hotel fines guests for leaving bad review on TripAdvisor

Blackpool: A couple was ‘fined’ £100 by Broadway Hotel in Blackpool for leaving negative review on travel review website Trip Advisor.

After being unimpressed during their one-night stay at the hotel, retired van driver Tony Jenkinson, 63, and his 64-year-old wife Jan described the Broadway Hotel as a ‘rotten stinking hovel’.

The couple, from Whitehaven, later found £100 charged from their credit card.

Reportedly, the hotel it was their policy to charge for ‘bad’ reviews.

The couple said they only chose the hotel because it had car parking space and paid £36 for the double room.

Trading Standards are investigating the matter and officials believe that the hotel might have violated unfair trading practice regulations.

The hotel policy reads: "For every bad review left on any website, the group organiser will be charged a maximum £100 per review."

The couple have sought a refund via their credit card company.
