Chennai: In a bid to keep an eagle eye on call taxi operations, especially those ferrying single women and stay of outsiders and foreigners here, police have laid down requirements for the operators and lodge owners. Senior police officers told the call taxi operators that they should cross check the identity, conduct and service history through police when they hire drivers and check ownership of vehicles when they come for being hired.
“The original driving licence should be retained by the operators and they should have his present and permanent addresses. All drivers should be provided with ID cards with their photograph,” they said.
All vehicles should be covered by insurance, drivers should never be drunk and cannot park vehicles in no parking area, they added. As for lodges, those not having CCTV should immediately install them in such a way that CCTV covered the two wheeler and car parking areas too. While entry of all vehicles to the premises should be thoroughly checked, only qualified and trained securitymen should be deployed round the clock, police said.
