Salem: A pet Labrador dog of a silversmith gobbled a silver anklet at Sevvapet in Salem. The 11-inch-long anklet, weighing 140 gm, which lodged in the intenstine of the dog has been surgically removed.“The anklet has been removed from the dog’s stomach and it is safe now,” said veterinarian, Dr Joseph, who treated the four-month-old Labrador.

As the dog appeared sick and suffered from frequent bouts of nausea for the last four days, its owner, Kannan, a silversmith, took his pet to a private veterinary clinc at Kumarasamipatti, in Salem city.

An x-ray examination showed that the dog had swallowed an anklet. It was then that the silversmith realised that one of the anklets that went missing about 20 days ago had been swallowed by his dog.“Dogs are usually drawn to things that move and sway. So, when it saw the bells of the anklets swinging, the dog swallowed it,” Dr Joseph explained.
