We will be bigger than Apple and Samsung: Xiaomi
CEO Lei Jun confidently claimed that Xiaomi will rise higher than Apple and Samsung
Xiaomi, a four-year-old Chinese company, which started off with MIUI as a third-party operating system with a handful of developers, went on to manufacturer smartphones. The reason for entering manufacturing space is to promote their most desired operating system on a perfectly compatible hardware so that everyone can enjoy the custom user interface without compatibility issues.
The moment they launched their own smartphone, Xiaomi took off to be one of the top leading smartphone manufacturers in China. Later, they spread out to the world with their pocket-friendly smartphones shipped with their own tweaked operating system version of Android.
Xiaomi was founded in the year 2010 and has surpassed one of the biggest names in the world—Sony, HTC and LG, in the smartphone industry.
In July 2014, they entered the Indian market and found themselves overwhelmed with the huge fan following in the country. Soon, their high-end budget smartphones were selling like hot cakes. Presently they have sold almost 10 million smartphones in less than six months in India. Interestingly, they have only sold two smartphone models in India, the Mi 3 and Redmi 1S, of which the latter one is still the best seller in the budget segment.
Earlier this year, statistics showed that Xiaomi rose to taking the number 5 spot in the world-wide smartphone manufacturer list. Last month, another market report claimed that Xiaomi rose higher and has presently been placed at number 3. These statistics are derived from the number of smartphone units manufactured and shipped out of the factory.
Speaking World Internet Conference in China this week, Jun Lei, CEO of Xiaomi, stated with high confidence that Xiaomi will rise higher than Apple and Samsung within the next 5 to 10 years. This would make Xiaomi rise to the number 1 smartphone company in the world.
According to a report on BGR, over 60 million fans have owned a Xiaomi device in 2014. And this number is expected to rise to almost 100 million by 2015, giving Xiaomi an enormous base of 200 million users.
The impressive speed at which Xiaomi has risen and is constantly moving up the charts has shocked the world. But whether they will knock Apple or Samsung off the list is yet to be seen.
