A Don deal for Arjun Rampal
Arjun Rampal to essay the role of gangster turned politico Arun Gawli
It’s an interesting phenomenon in Bollywood that actors who’ve played roles based on real life gangsters have very often received the most praise for those projects.
Actors like Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Devgn, Vivek Oberoi, John Abraham have all been lauded for their portrayals of characters inspired by real life dons. Is it any wonder then, that Arjun Rampal who is essaying the role of Mumbai’s gangster turned politico Arun Gawli in an upcoming film is going all out to ensure he gets the portrayal right?
Our sources from the actor’s inner circle inform us that Arjun has thrown himself into the project, and is so busy doing the recce and research for the part that he has refused to take on any other projects in the interim.
In a previous interview, Arjun had said that he was putting in a lot of homework for his new role. “When you are bestowed with a responsibility to portray such a role, you have to delve deeply into it.
You have to understand that person, his personality and everything so that you are able to do justice to the character on the screen,” he said. Once work on his current project Roy wraps up, Arjun will be focusing entirely on the Gawli film, which he hopes will resurrect his career, our sources add.
Arjun who has been lying low after his alleged rift with one time close friend Shah Rukh Khan, allegations of being involved in the Sussanne Khan Hrithik Roshan divorce, and reports of financial troubles, has also been missing from the B town party scene.
“Too much was being said and written (about Arjun),” our source says. “Like everyone else, even actors feel the need to sit back and introspect. One must respect their privacy.”
