Domestic terminal at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport named as NTR

New Delhi: Over six years after the sprawling Shamshabad Airport in Hyderabad was thrown open to public by the previous Congress government, the civil aviation ministry on Thursday restored the name of the domestic terminal after late Telugu Desam Party founder and legendary actor N.T. Rama Rao, a demand that was doggedly pursued by the TDP for years.
The Civil aviation minister, Lok Sabha MP from Vizianagaram, Ashok Gajapathi Raju issued an official order in this regard on Thursday, nearly six months after he took over the ministry after joining the Narendra Modi Cabinet.
The domestic terminal of the Old Airport at Begumpet had earlier been named after NTR, but when the airport was shifted to Shamshabad during YSR’s tenure in 2008, both domestic and international terminals were called Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.
