Chennai: A part of K.K. Nagar Anna Main Road caved in on Thursday, creating a hole, 4 feet deep and 10 feet wide. Simultaneously, another smaller hole formed a few metres away. The hole was then filled with four lorry loads of sand. “As the metro water pumping station is near by, the sewage water gushing through a pipeline beneath it leaked, thus eroding the lower surface of the road,” said ward councillor M. Gunasekaran.
“Every official has been instructed to find any cracks or leaks in the pipelines so that no such incidents occur in the future,” he added. The small hole was also covered. This is not the first such incident occurring on the stretch as a 20-foot wide hole was formed near MGR Nagar junction. About 15 lorry loads of sand were required to fill it.
