Police constable P Obulesu’s past under scanner
Senior police officials said that they would investigate into his past activities also
Hyderabad: Obulesu, a police constable from the excise department, is to be brought to Hyderabad on Friday morning as part of the investigation into the KBR Park shooting.
Obulesu had allegedly extorted a large sum of money from another high-profile victim, the son of a bureaucrat, a few months ago in the same style at KBR Park. However, the victim, who was scared after Obulesu threatened to kill him, did not approach the police. Senior police officials said that they would investigate into his past activities also.
Cops said that Obulesu had been on leave from November 11 after he applied for 15 days of casual leave. He is suspected to have stolen the AK-47 while he was in Greyhounds and took the weapon with him after leaving the force.
Obulesu had worked for 12 years in Greyhounds and after he was repatriated from the force, he joined the Armed Reserve in CPL at Amberpet. He was deputed to the excise department one and a half month ago, said the police.
On Wednesday morning at around 7.15, Obulesu, pretending to be the personal security of a VIP, had accosted Aurobindo Pharma wholetime director K. Nityananda Reddy when he was about to get into his car. He had opened fire when Mr Reddy and his brother had resisted. While fleeing, he had left behind the weapon and his bag at the spot, which was instrumental in his capture.
