Rapes in school: Police ready with chargesheets
BENGALURU: The city police have filed the chargesheet in connection with the sexual assault on a three-and-a-half-year-old girl in Orchids The International School in Jalahalli that took place on the school premises on Oct 21.

The police are ready with the chargesheet of the case related to the sexual assault on a six-year-old girl at the Indiranagar Cambridge School. The chargesheet will be submitted to the court on Saturday.

A senior police officer said that the police have to file chargesheet in cases registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act within a month. “The deadline for Jalahalli school sexual assault case was to get over by Sunday, hence the chargesheet was filed on Friday. Though, there is some more time in the Indiranagar Cambridge School case, we are ready with the chargesheet and it will be submitted on Saturday,” the officer said.

Another officer said that the police hurriedly filed the chargesheet as ACP (Malleswaram sub-division) Sara Fathima, who is the investigating officer in both the cases, has been promoted as SP and transferred. “If she is relieved from her current post, there will be some inconvenience in preparing the chargesheet, as the case will be transferred to another officer. Thus, she was asked by the top cops to prepare the chargesheet and submit it to the court before taking up her new posting.”

“The chargesheet submitted to the court included the medical reports, statements of victim, accused and witnesses along with other documents substantiating the charges levelled against the accused. In both the cases, we will have to submit additional chargesheet as some of the reports, including the forensic reports, are yet to reach us,” he said.

DCP (North) T.R. Suresh, confirmed that the chargesheet was filed on Friday. In the Orchids sexual assault case, Gundappa, a 45-year-old office assistant, was arrested.
