GHMC fails to clear bin waste
GHMC has neither implemented the system nor has it removed the overflowing bins
Hyderabad: The bin system for door to door garbage collection announced by the GHMC, remains just an announcement.
The GHMC had said that the two bin system for collection of dry and wet waste in separate bins would be implemented in select colonies and had asked residents to purchase green bins for bio waste and red ones for recyclable waste.
But the GHMC has neither implemented the system nor has it removed the overflowing bins. The residents of Kaundiya Apartments on Himayatnagar Street 5 said, “The additional commissioner for health and sanitation conducted a programme to educate residents on how to segregate garbage. But the scheme was not implemented.
The bin is now a dumping yard.” When asked about this the GHMC additional commissioner, for health and sanitation, Mr N. Ravi Kiran said, "If the bins are not cleared residents can file a complaint with the area sanitary supervisor or even call the driver of the garbage vehicle.”
The bin less system needs a lot of public involvement and is a big task. The GHMC will look into it."
"The GHMC had even put up boards notifying 'bin clearing time' near garbage dumps to receive complaints regarding uncleared bins.
The boards contained details about locality, garbage clearing time, vehicle number, area sanitary inspector's name and mobile number. But despite all this overflowing garbage bins are common at many colonies," said K. Shekar Gupta, a resident of Padmarao Nagar.
When asked about the bin system the GHMC additional commissioner, for health and sanitation, Mr N. Ravi Kiran said, "If the garbage bins in the colony are not cleared regularly, residents can file a complaint with the area sanitary supervisor or even call the driver of the garbage vehicle.
The bin less system needs a lot of public involvement and is a big task. The GHMC will look into it."
