Telangana: KCR favours CCTVs to make Hyderabad safer
Rao said that a budget of Rs 150 crore has already been allocated to improve security
Hyderabad: Following the recent failed abduction at KBR Park, Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao said on Friday that his government was committed to the safety of industrialists and the public in general, adding that surveillance in the city was being increased on a large scale.
He said a comprehensive plan had also been prepared for this and the requisite budgetary allocations had been made. The Chief Minister also sought cooperation from the public in the implementation of the Public Safety Enforcement Act.
In a statement made in the Assembly, Mr Rao said that CCTV cameras had played a key role in identifying the perpetrator of Wednesday’s incident. “Crucial evidence in this case was provided by footage from a CCTV camera and the accused was identified based on this evidence,” he said.
“The government has prepared a comprehensive plan for surveillance in the city and budgetary allocations have also been made,” he added.
Stressing on the importance of surveillance, the CM said that though the existing CCTV cameras were few, they were helping solve numerous cases. Mr Rao said that a Command and Control Centre of international standards was being setup in the city and a budget of Rs 150 crore has already been allocated to improve security.
Meanwhile, to enhance public safety and to implement the proposal to install IP-based CCTV systems under the GHMC limits by all establishments, Hyderabad cops are liaising with the community leaders and vendors dealing with CCTV cameras.
The Vendor Empanelment Process for Community CCTV Project was launched by the city police on Friday. “This initiative is to see that the vendors dealing with CCTV cameras do not cheat the public with higher rates and cheap quality,” said Hyderabad police commissioner M. Mahender Reddy, adding that the empanelment of system integrators would be done through a closed-bid process.
