Hyderabad: Four persons from a family allegedly attempted suicide at Chakripuram in Kushaiguda on Saturday morning. Three persons died in the suicide bid and  one is being treated in hospital.

Financial problems are suspected to have forced them take the extreme step. The victims were identified as P. Eashwar Chary, 55, a goldsmith, his wife Parvathi, 50, and two sons Nagababu, 24, and Prasad, 26. The family has a jewellery shop named as Swarna Jewelers in Kushaiguda.

Sources said that Eashwar Chary suffered losses and had borrowed money. He was depressed over his heavy debts. It is suspected that the family had a debt of Rs 20 lakh.

Police said that depressed over their debts the family decided to commit suicide.

On Saturday morning all the four consumed poison, suspected to be cyanide, after mixing it in water at their house. While Eashwar Chary, Parvathi and Nagababu died Prasad was rushed to a private hospital and is being treated.

His condition is said to be stable. Sources said Prasad’s wife Laxmi Tulasi found them unconscious. The locals and cops were alerted.

Inspector N. Venkata Ramana said no suicide note was found. Relatives said the family was passing through a tough phase financially and had sought help. Prasad said they took the extreme step due to financial problems, the inspector added.

The bodies were shifted to Gandhi Hospital and were later handed over after postmortem.
