Thiruvananthapuram: God could not always come down to settle people’s problems. But He always acted through selected human beings, said Governor P.Sathasivam, while inaugurating the public gathering jointly organised by the Syro Malabar, Syro Malankara and Latin Catholic Churches at Lourdes Church here, to coincide with the canonization of Chavara Kuriakose Elias and Sr Euphrasia, on Sunday.

The Governor said St Chavara Kuriakose Elias and St Euphrasia were such special people who were chosen to improve the lives of those around them.

Archbishop Emeritus of the Syro Malabar Archdiocese of Changanassery, Mar Joseph Powathil in his presidential address said that progress could be attained only through synthesis between social world and the spiritual.

Progress could not be achieved by just concentrating on one. The true worth of people like St Chavara Kuriakose Elias and St Euphrasia is that they realized this truth, he said.
