Coimbatore: With the demand for total prohibition in TN gaining momentum, the MDMK on Sunday organised a marathon for students to create awareness among the public on the ills of liquor.

After flagging off the marathon which saw the participation of about 6,000 students, MDMK general secretary Vaiko said liquor was introduced in TN to increase the revenue of the government. But it ruins the future of youths and their families.

There was no liquor during the rule of late Kamaraj and C.N. Annadurai in the state, but successive governments, in order to fill their coffers, were depending on the increasing revenue from the sale of liquor, he alleged. He also took part in the marathon.
