Bengaluru: Sri Ram Sena chief Pramod Muthalik on Sunday evening held a meeting to thwart the ‘Kiss of Love’ campaign which is scheduled to be held on November 30.
The meeting was attended by over 60 members from across the state, including state and district presidents of over 10 pro-Hindu organisations like Akhila Bharat Hindu Mahasabha, Hindu Janjagruti Samiti and Kranti Dal. Mr Muthalik said, “The meeting decided to disrupt the event at any cost. Around 300-500 women activists from Mahila Vibhaga Durga Sena will lead the protest.”
Meanwhile, reacting to the proposed Kiss of Love protest, Home Minister K.J. George on Sunday cautioned the organisers and said the jurisdictional police will take the final call on giving permission to the protest against moral policing.
Participating in a programme at the Mysore central prison, he said that citizens enjoy certain constitutional rights that come with certain responsibilities.
“The people have the right to hold peaceful protests, which no one can deny. But anything that threatens to disturb the law and order and against the culture will not be entertained. I have given a free hand to the police to act on their discretion,” he said.
On the reported Naxal movement on the Karnataka border near H.D. Kote, he said that the Anti-Naxal Force and police are looking into the matter and are taking all necessary steps.
The state is also gathering information on the alleged arrest of three suspected terrorists, who reportedly stayed in Dharwad for over five months and who were later arrested for their involvement in the Chennai train blast.
“We are collecting information on the arrests and asked the police to take precautionary measures to ensure anti-social elements don’t find a safe haven in the state,” he said.
Mr George gave away degree certificates to eight inmates of the prison who graduated from the Karnataka State Open University (KSOU).
He inaugurated a postgraduate study centre set up by the KSOU on the jail premises and also a training programme for women inmates for manufacturing handicraft from silk yarns, organised by the Anthahkarana, in association with the KSOU.
