When Sachin Tendulkar batted with tissue papers in his underwear
In his book ‘Playing it My Way’ , Master Blaster discloses the reason behind doing so
Mumbai: Apart from the controversies surrounding Greg Chappell and unity in Team India, Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar also touched upon certain embarassing situations, in his book ‘Playing it My Way’, while in the middle. Not many are aware that the legend once batted for close to three hours (160 minutes) with tissue papers in his underwear.
It was during the Super 6 match against Sri Lanka in the ICC World Cup in 2003. Despite the thorny feeling underneath, Tendulkar managed to score 97 in Johannesburg. Now, the question arises why did he do that? Well, he had an upset stomach. In his book, the legend wrote that his condition was so severe that he had to visit the dressing room during the drink breaks.
"I also added a teaspoon of salt to the energy drinks, thinking it would help the recovery, and that caused a tummy upset. In fact, the situation was so bad that I had to bat with tissues inside my underwear. I even had to go back to the dressing room during one of the drinks breaks and was feeling extremely uncomfortable in the middle," he writes.
Here's a glimpse of that match. See if you can spot an overblown pant (blame the underwear and tissues).
