Dry Sunday push on liquor cases

Kochi: Ever since the state government declared Sunday as a dry day, the district registered an upsurge in the number of abkari cases.

Last Saturday alone, 18 persons were arrested in 16 cases under the Ernakulam Excise divisional office and 9.9 liters of Ayurvedic decoction, 32.45 ltrs of foreign liquor and 40.25 liters of beer were seized.

On Sunday four persons were held and 4.83 litres of foreign liquor were seized. Previous Saturday, 10 persons were held and 34.425 litres of foreign liquor and 7.8 litre beer were seized.
