Former minister D.K. Aruna said that under the previous scheme, the government would extend financial assistance of up to Rs 2.50 lakh from the baby's birth till the completion of her graduation.

Hyderabad: The TRS sought to differentiate between the Bangaru Talli scheme introduced by the previous Congress and Kalyana Lakshmi of the TRS.

Minister T. Harish Rao replied, “Both schemes are different. Don’t compare them. Bangaru Talli is implemented by the women and child welfare department, while our scheme is implemented by the welfare department.”

Former minister D.K. Aruna said that under the previous scheme, the government would extend financial assistance of up to Rs 2.50 lakh from the baby’s birth till the completion of her graduation.

“Is it proper to scrap such a  scheme for the sake of Kalyana Lakshmi, which provides expenses only for their marriage?” Ms Aruna asked.

Finance minister Etela Rajender created further confusion saying, “We have not scrapped the previous scheme. It is implemented by the education department.”

Following this, Ms Aruna wondered, “It seems there is no clarity in the government itself over its schemes as ministers are giving conflicting statements.”
