Crack on railway track delays trains

Chennai: Passengers travelling in four EMU trains along the Tambaram–Chengalpattu stretch were stranded for more than an hour following a crack on the track.The crack was detected by railway staff between Perunagalathur and Vandalur. Immediately, EMU train from Beach to Chengalpet was stopped, following which the Egmore – Tiruchendur express, Egmore – Rameshwaram express and Beach – Kancheepuram express were stacked behind each other.
 
Railway officials started to work on the crack by 4.30 pm. After one hour, the officials said that the track was temporarily ready to use and allowed the trains to move across thedamaged spot at 10 km per hour. Railway officials attributed the reason of the crack to temperature variations.
 
“There are no chances of anti social elements cracking the tracks but the weather changes often create such cracks,” said an official.“This damage will be sorted out in a day,” the official added.
