Namakkal on high alert over bird flu
As many as one crore eggs are being supplied to Kerala from Namakkal every day
Namakkal: With bird flu breaking out in neighbouring Kerala, the poultry hub of Namakkal in Tamil Nadu is on a high alert.
The Tamil Nadu government has formed 20 rapid action teams comprising veterinary doctors from the Animal Husbandry department to inspect the poultry farms spread across
Namakkal. District collector V.Dakshinamoorthy held an emergency meeting with the the poultry farm owners and the officials of the Animal Husbandry department to take precautionary steps to prevent the spread of bird flu from Kerala to Namakkal.
As many as one crore eggs are being supplied to Kerala from Namakkal every day.
As bird flu could deal a blow to the poultry industry in Namakkal and there is a possibility of the flu spreading to humans, the Collector has asked the poultry owners to completely disinfect their farms on a daily basis.
Export of eggs from Namakkal would also be badly affected if a bird flu breaks out in the poultry farms of Namakkal.
The collector directed poultry owners to immediately report to the Animal Husbandry department officials if any bird was found with symptoms of flu.
