BJP brass sets new targets for primary members
The party has also advanced the deadline for becoming an active member
New Delhi: In a move to build a team of dedicated cadres, the BJP brass has set new targets for the primary members to become active members.
Those who are joining BJP as primary members will now be required to stay away from their homes and serve a particular area or a region for a week without a break and enroll at least 100 new (primary) members. The party has also advanced the deadline for becoming an active member.
The March 31, 2015 deadline has now been advanced to January 15 next year. Incidentally only an active member can become an office bearer in the organisation.
While this entre move is for Delhi at this juncture, the saffron leadership is debating on whether this could be implemented at the national level.
Earlier a primary member could spend seven days in a region or in an area with breaks within the time frame of March 31, 2015. Also instead of 100 he was expected to enroll only 50 memebrs.
With the Delhi polls expected to be held during the first week of February the Delhi BJP unit has been asked to enroll 28 lakh members before January 15.
The party president, Mr Amit Shah, who intends to make BJP the “largest political outfit” in the country has also set strict rules for those primary member aspiring to climb up the ladder.
It was learnt that the party would take action against those primary members who failed to enroll at least 100 new members.
The failed primary members would not be given any work or role in the organisation. For records, the Delhi BJP claimed that since the launch of membership drive on November 1 it has enrolled over eight lakh primary members of which 20,000 have been elevated to active members.
The decision to make these changes was taken in a meeting held in Delhi on November 22 in which state unit presidents, organisation in-charges and general secretaries discussed ways to expand the party’s base.
The meeting was presided by the BJP chief Mr Shah. From Delhi, state unit president Satish Upadhyay, organisation incharge Vijay Sharma and general secretary Ashish Sood, among several others were present.
The general secretary of Delhi unit, Ashish Sood told this correspondent that this particular exercise “will help in rapid expansion of the party.”
