Lit-up ‘Taxi’ sign must for cabs
Officials are also making the cabs display the word “T” on both sides of the cab
Hyderabad: As part of the women’s safety measures suggested by the committee formed by the Telangana state government, road transport officials are making it compulsory for cabs to install illuminating boards reading “Taxi” on top of the vehicle. The enforcement will start from this week.
“In Hyderabad alone there are 20,000 cabs plying on the roads, where as Ranga Reddy has equal numbers which enter and exit the city daily. As part of the recommendations made by the women’s safety committee, we are making the cabs install illuminating board saying ‘Taxi’ on top of the vehicle,” said RTO joint commissioner T. Raghunath.
He added the enforcement would start from this week, and any cab comes that comes for fitness check to the RTO office, will have to install the board. Every year, cabs have to get their fitness certificates renewed at RTO, and we will make all of them do this, he assured.
Officials are also making the cabs display the word “T” on both sides of the cab. Apart from these measures, officials will focus on auto rickshaw and cab drivers display their identity details including driving licence number, name and other details on the rear side of driver’s seat.
“We are also planning to implement GPRS system,” he added.
