KOLLAM: The Corporation would turn its focus on waste management and go ahead with the ‘Clean City’ project, said Honey Benjamin, the new Mayor of Kollam.

The partly abandoned dumpyard at Kureepuzha would be reopened soon to tackle waste management issues, she said at the Press Club here on Thursday.

Commenting on the public agitation against the dumpyard, the Mayor said the concerns of the public would be addressed.

“The plan introduced by the former Mayor was sabotaged by some vested groups. The reopening of the dump yard by addressing these concerns will be one of my priorities,” Honey Benjamin said.

On the traffic woes of the city, the Mayor said work on the  underpass would be completed soon and it would be thrown open to traffic by the end of December. Honey Benjamin has an eight-month term ahead of her.
