This film is going to change my future: Rehhana
NRI girl Rehhana is making her Tollywood debut with Chakkiligintha
Yet another NRI debutant in Tollywood Rehhana is all set to start her Tollywood innings with the film Chakkiligintha opposite Sumanth Aswin.
This is not her first film as she has already done a Tamil film 555, which released last August.
Rehhana hails from Kerala and was raised in the US by her parents who work with a software company. “Even as a child I was interested in the arts,” she says. She is trained in Bharatanaytam too.
“I would teach Bollywood dance in the weekends. We dressed up and performed on what are called ‘item’ songs here,” she says. She has performed in many stage shows in America.
“My mother sent my photos to a Malayalam reality show which is based on dancing and singing. I got selected for the show,” she says.
When they released advertisement promos, Tamil director Sasi saw her and approached her for his Tamil film. “That’s how my Tamil film started.
The film was released one week before Vijay’s Thalaiva. It was released in a hurry, so it didn’t get much publicity, but the film has done well,” she says.
When Telugu director Vema Reddy approached her for this Telugu film, she immediately agreed.
“When I came to know that it was director Sukumar’s team, I immediately said yes. Sukumar’s Arya was released in Malayalam and was a big hit,” says the actress.
“I never thought that I would do a Telugu film. But now, I am really looking forward to this film’s release,” she says.
She says that she is familiar with languages like Tamil, Malayalam, Hindi, Punjabi, Guajrati and even Kannada as she stayed for a while in Mysore. “But I had no idea of Telugu,” she says.
Now the actress is learning the language and can understand it. “I really want to say the dialogues myself in the near future. This also helps me express correctly during shots,” she says.
Rehhana has been watching Telugu films to learn the language. She watched Govindudu Andarivaadele in the theatre and has seen the film Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu as well.
She got offers for other films while working on the Telugu film. “A couple of Malayalam and Tamil offers came my way, but due to date problems I didn’t take them on.
I know this film will change my future, so I wanted focus completely on it,” says the actress who wants to shift base to Hyderabad and is looking for a house in the city.
