We’re crazy on the sets: Karanvir Bohra and Surbhi Jyoti
Actors Karanvir Bohra and Surbhi Jyoti talk about their chemistry on and off the sets
Please share something about your co-star that the audiences don’t know until now.
Surbhi: Karanvir is an amazing portrait artist. His sketches look exactly like the person he’s trying to recreate.
Karanvir: Surbhi loves sleeping! Given a chance, she wouldn’t mind sleeping for 14-16 hours a day at a stretch — exactly the number of hours she puts in at a shoot.
And something about yourself that the fans don’t know?
Surbhi: I can be quiet too. My fans think I speak a lot, but there is a side to me which is extremely quiet and believes a lot in meditation and peace.
Karanvir: People think I have a lot of attitude, ego and that I’m always angry. But I’m the complete opposite. I’m a funny, silly guy! Quite carefree about the way I approach life.
What do you admire the most about each other?
Surbhi: The biggest quality in KV’s personality is that he is a big support. If he is your friend, he will stand by you through thick and thin and treat you like family.
Karanvir: Surbhi is very spontaneous and the one thing that I really admire about her is that if she makes someone her friend, she keeps them close to her for life. She also can make a room or a screen come alive with her presence.
Is there something you would like to change about your co-actor?
Surbhi: I think Karanvir is a little stubborn about certain things in life and even he knows that he needs to change that about himself.
Karanvir: When it comes to Surbhi, there are a lot of people who try to guide her or try to mother her. I think she should stop listening to everyone and just do what she likes; lead a life on her own terms.
Any behind-the-scenes memory that makes you laugh even today?
Surbhi: We have a lot of fun on the sets. There have been many such instances where KV and I just would start laughing over something trivial and couldn’t stop. The situation goes to the extent that the production people need to wait for us to return to normalcy so that they can resume the shoot. The director actually gets mad at us, but he finally surrenders to the fact that we will take our time to laugh and asks us to get it out of our system. The more we laugh, the more upset the directors get! We’re crazy on the sets.
Karanvir: For the first scene with Surbhi during the shoot of Qubool Hai, I had to wear glasses and I’m very particular about anything that is part of my look — whether its glasses, a shirt or my hair. So she comes up to me and tells me ‘the way you’re wearing your glasses is very un-stylish. Why don’t you wear it in a better way?’ Imagine it’s the first day of shoot and she says something like this to me! And I’m like ‘Excuse me?’ So yeah, that is a funny incident I still remember. And we both laugh every time we are reminded of it.
A compliment from fans that made you blush?
Surbhi: Once a fan came on the sets of Qubool Hai and told me that he hasn’t come to meet me, but has in fact come to propose to me for marriage. He added that if I say ‘yes’, he plans to take me home after the show’s pack up. I said that ‘I am sorry, you have come way too early. My pack up is only at 10 pm’. That guy was left stunned because it’s not the kind of response he expected from a girl he has just proposed marriage to.
Karanvir: Once a fan said to me ‘I don’t care that you’re married, I want to marry you and I don’t mind being your second wife’!
A funny or odd question a fan has asked you?
Surbhi: It was Ramzan and I was having pani puri in Lokhandwala. Some of my fans spotted me and asked me why I hadn’t observed roza. I didn’t know what to say, so I just smiled.
Karanvir: I was once asked, “Are you married to Surbhi?”
If not an actor, what would be the perfect profession for your co-star and why?
Surbhi: He would be a portrait artist if not an actor because he is amazing at it.
Karanvir: She gives a lot of gyaan, so she could actually be a very good teacher.
