Culling of ducks continues unabated
2,000 birds culled
Kottayam: While over 2,000 birds were culled in Aymanam and Kumarakom panchayats on Friday, the central medical team which visited Kottayam said that the affected birds should be culled, burnt and buried within two days.
The team gave this instruction at the review meeting held at the district medical office. DMO Dr Iysha Bhai presided over the meeting.
The team asked those culling the birds to use safety dresses. The blood samples of those who experience fever, asphyxiation and throat pain should be tested, they said.
The team consists of Dr C.S. Agarwal, Dr Somanath Kamarkar and Dr Desh Deepak. District Collector Ajith Kumar told Deccan Chronicle that the district administration had distributed Rs 8.7 lakh as compensation to the farmers who suffered losses in the bird flu.
