ISL: Goals galore in Dynamos’ win
Delhi side trashes Mumbai city fc by four goals
New Delhi: Delhi Dynamos produced a fine performance to thrash Mumbai City FC 4-1 in their Indian Super League clash here on Friday. Hans Mulder (44th), Mads Junker (50th) Gustavo dos Santos (60th) and Manish Bhargav (90th) scored for the Dynamos, their second win on the trot. They are now sixth on the league table with 13 points while Mumbai, who scored through Abhishek Yadav (86th), dropped to the bottom with 12.
The hosts dominated most of the game, with wave after wave of attacks keeping the Mumbai defenders on their toes. The visitors seemed jittery in the initial stages, and were lucky not to concede an early goal despite some woeful defending. The poor show by the back four was compounded by a lack of bite upfront, and the few chances that Mumbai managed to create went abegging.
Delhi went ahead just before the break when Mulder released Helrique Oliviera down the right flank with a nice pass before darting into the Mumbai box. Oliviera’s cross from near the corner flag was met by a poor attempted clearance by Manuel Freidrich. The deflection found Mulder, who made no mistake.
The second half brought more misery for Mumbai as Junker scored shortly after the restart. Dos Santos, who was in impressive form, got Delhi’s third when another piece of atrocious defending by Mumbai allowed him virtually acres of space inside the box and he met Francisco’s cross with a perfect header, giving Paul no chance. Yadav gifted Mumbai their only bright spot of the game when he met Sushil’s cross with a smart finish. But the smiles in the Mumbai dugout did not last long as Bhargav scored right at the end to round off a great evening for the hosts. On Saturday, FC Pune City will host Atletico de Kolkata.
