Governor Office questions Telangana
Guv office claims consensus reached on Inter exams
Hyderabad: In what could kick up a row, the Governor’s Office has asked the Telangana state government to explain why it has not reverted to the Governor on the Intermediate exams issue after reaching a consensus on holding common exams.
Incidentally, both governments have maintained that no consensus was reached at the meeting.
The letter was written from the Andhra Pradesh side, undersigned by N. Ramesh as the principal secretary to the Andhra Pradesh Governor. It was addressed to Telangana education department secretary Vikas Raj.
In the letter written on Saturday, Mr Ramesh sought to know the stance adopted by the TS government on the Intermediate exams.
Adopting a critical tone, he also questioned the Telangana government as to why it had not reverted to the Governor, after the joint ministers' meeting held over a week ago.
In the letter, Mr Ramesh said that both ministers had reached consensus on conducting the common Intermediate exams with Telangana education minister G. Jagadish Reddy as the chairman of the steering committee, which will control the Board of Intermediate Examinations (BIE).
The Governor’s office asked the Telangana government to inform the Governor of its decision on the issue at the earliest.
Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan had convened a joint meeting of the two education ministers, G. Jagadish Reddy and Ganta Srinivas Rao on November 20.
After the meeting, both ministers had said that they would consult their respective CMs and revert.
Another joint meeting between the two ministers was also scheduled the next day, but could not be held.
No headway has since been made in resolving the tangle.
The letter undersigned by the principal secretary to Andhra Pradesh seems to have irked the Telangana government. An official reply to the letter may not be sent, as per sources.
Sources, however, still maintain that the steering committee solution was not totally agreed upon and discussion is still under progress. Sources in the Andhra Pradesh school education department, said they have not received any letter yet.
