EVKS Elangovan questions Moopanar’s role
TNCC president said that Vasan needs to clarify what Moopanar contributed to congress party
Chennai: Firing his first major salvo at G.K.Vasan’s TMC (Moopanar), Tamil Nadu Congress president E.V.K.S. Elangovan on Saturday wondered what had Moopanar done to the Congress party.Talking to reporters after receiving actor Khushbu at Satyamurthy Bhavan, Mr Elangovan took exception to drawing a parallel between Kamarajar and Moopanar and said, “Kamarajar had served nine years in prison for the country’s freedom and had done a lot to the people during his ten-year stint as the CM of the state, but I don’t know what was Moopanar’s contribution to the Congress party.”
Adding that Vasan has floated a party in Moopanar’s name and henceforth they will propagate the ideas of Kamarajar alone, Elangovan said that it was for Vasan to clarify what Moopanar had contributed to the Congress party. On the issue of introducing Sanskrit as third language in schools, the TNCC chief warned the BJP led Centre that it would face the opposition of Tamil people if the Centre forces schools to adopt Sanskrit as the third language.
“The Centre has adopted an educational policy which forces Sanskrit as the third language. If the Centre repeats such things, it will face the entire opposition of Tamil people,” he remarked. The Supreme Court had asked the Centre to consider not replacing German language with Sanskrit in Kendriya Vidyalayas in the middle of the academic session and implement the decision from next academic year.
Speaking on the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Scheme, Elangovan said the BJP government has revised the fund alloted from Rs34,000 crore to Rs23,000 crore.“Due to the reduction in fund allotment by the Centre to rural employment scheme, there is a possibility that rural women may be denied jobs. That should not happen. If such a situation arises, the Congress will bring the rural women and agitate in front of all government offices,” he said.
