Irfan Pathan eyes India comeback
All rounder currently sidelined with knee injury is looking at long term goals
MUMBAI: At a time when Indian cricketers are trying their best to impress the selectors ahead of the World Cup probables list to be announced in a week’s time, all-rounder Irfan Pathan is waiting anxiously to get back on the field. With large part of his career taking a hit owing to multiple injuries, Irfan’s knee injury has forced him to miss the start of Vijay Hazare Trophy and the ongoing Deodhar Trophy.
With his World Cup hopes almost dashed, the 30-year-old is now looking at long-term goals. “I had a good spell with the Indian team. I believe in looking forward and not looking back so what I see in the future is hopefully five to seven years of good cricket without any injuries.”
Irfan added that he is still some time away from regaining full fitness. “I am work in progress right now. My recovery is on track and I have started running. I want to make sure that when I take the field I am on top of my game as far as fitness is concerned.”
He said that his immediate goal would be to play the Ranji Trophy that starts from December 8. “I have been trying different techniques with my physios and hopefully it will work for me. The whole aim is to make sure that I play majority of the Ranji Trophy matches for Baroda.“Luckily for me, the Ranji Trophy starts next week. I can play in as many matches as possible, which is crucial for any cricketer looking to make a comeback into the Indian team.”
