Passenger killed as roadside tree falls on express bus

The injured were admitted to the Musiri government hospital

Tiruchy: The passenger of a state express transport corporation (SETC) bus was killed on the spot and five others suffered injuries when a giant, roadside tree fell on the bus at Umayalpuram, on the Tiruchy-Salem highway under Musiri police station limits, on Sunday night.

The police said the bus was proceeding to Bengaluru from Tiruchy when the accident took place and claimed the life of Balasubramanian of Srirangam. The injured were admitted to the Musiri government hospital.

Vehicular traffic on the Tiruchy-Salem highway came to a grinding halt due to the mishap and regular traffic resumed only in the small hours of Monday. The tree had to be cut into pieces before the badly damaged bus could be removed from the accident site, the police added.
