35 militants killed in Pakistan's tribal region bordering Afghanistan
More than 1,200 militants have been killed in these operations
Islamabad: At least 35 militants were killed on Tuesday by the Pakistani fighter jets and security forces in the country's troubled tribal region, bordering Afghanistan.
The jets targeted rebels in Dattakhel area of North Waziristan where a massive military operation against militants was launched in mid-June.
A security official said that at least 30 militants were killed in the precision strikes that targeted rebel hideouts.
He said some vehicles and building were also destroyed. The identity of those killed was not known but they include at least two commanders and some foreign fighters.
Meanwhile, five militants were killed on Tuesday in clashes with forces in remote Tirah Valley area of Khyber tribal region, officials said.
The forces launched operation in Khyber in early October against militants linked with the Taliban.
More than 1,200 militants have been killed in these operations. Army says the offensives would continue till militancy was crushed.
