Hyderabad: A youth from Guntur district ofAndhra Pradesh, working for a Nigerian company, has been allegedly kidnapped in the African country, a senior police

official said on Wednesday.

T Srinivasa Rao (26), living at Benim town in Nigeria, was kidnapped last week, the Guntur district police official said. The identity of the kidnappers was not known.

An official from the Nigerian firm informed Srinivasa Rao's family members about the incident, the police official said.

He said police was in touch with Chandrasekhar, a relative of Srinivasa Rao, who is also working in Nigeria, to gather more information on the abduction.

Efforts are being made to secure the release of Rao through the Indian embassy in Nigeria, he said.

Andhra Pradesh Minister for Information and NRI Affairs, Palle Raghunatha Reddy has spoken to the Acting Indian High Commissioner in Nigeria and requested him to take up the matter with Nigerian President for the early release of Rao, according to a state government release.

Meanwhile, YSRCP said its president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy has spoken to the parents of the kidnapped youth.
