Chennai corporation sees reshuffle of top brass
Reshuffling is done after corporation made headline for mismanagement in monsoon
Chennai: Chennai corporation, which made the headlines for mismanagement this monsoon, is now witnessing transfers among the rank and file. The corporation transferred one of its IAS officers Dr Vijay Pingale last month.The top civic babus are now reworking its engineering department and plan to promote an in-house senior engineer as the new chief engineer putting aside the idea of bringing engineers from the public works department for top engineering positions.
Similarly, the strength of superintending engineers reporting to regional deputy commissioners is to be reduced and will now return to the corporation headquarters, a civic official said.Meanwhile, local administration minister S.P. Velumani on Tuesday chaired a high level meeting with the Chennai metro water and corporation officials to enhance co-ordination between the civic bodies to reduce the number of public complaints on monsoon.
The corporation had also inducted new public relations officer Siva Guru for damage control and the incumbent is now working overtime to bring in some positive coverage for the Ripon Buildings. The PRO is also facing some internal resistance and as a ripple effect, a few of information department staff are now on long leave. In another major development with the information department the state government also transferred assistant director T. Saravanan. He has been transferred as the public relations officer to the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation, Tiruneveli.
