Telangana sends invite to US President Barack Obama

Hyderabad: The Telangana government has invited the US President Barack Obama to the state, when he would be visiting the country to partake in Republic Day celebrations on January 26, 2015.

Chief secretary Rajiv Sharma wrote a letter to the US Embassy to this effect on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, a delegation from the US state department met information technology minister K.T. Rama Rao at the Secretariat on Tuesday.

Mr Rao also extended an invitation to Mr Obama to visit the state on New Year and urged the US delegation to convey the message to the President.

With Hyderabad already having earned the rare distinction of being the only city in India, besides New Delhi, to have played host to two US Presidents earlier, the Ts government is confident that Mr Obama too would set foot in the state.

US President Bill Clinton had visited Hyderabad in March 2000 during Mr Chandrababu Naidu’s regime and George Bush in March 2006, during late YSR’s regime.

“During earlier US Presidents’ visits, Hyderabad was known to be the face of country’s IT industry. But today Hyderabad is considered to be the face of country’s globalisation.

The city has emerged as a global city with world class facilities. Mr Obama’s visit will help the new Telangana State get more global recognition.

We are confident that Mr Obama will accept our invitation and Hyderabad will achieve the hat trick by hosting third US President in a row,” Mr Rao said.

Mr Rao also briefed the US delegation on the new industrial policy unveiled by Telangana government recently.

“Though it’s only six months since we assumed office, we came out with world’s best industrial policy with single window clearance system that curtails corruption,” he told the delegation.

Investors can seek approvals through self certification which is for the first time in the country. I request you to inform about our industrial policy to investors in US and help the state in attracting new investments,” he urged the US delegation.
