Mumbai: A string of politicians in the recent past have made absurd statements about women, which obviously did not go down too well with the masses and celebs as well. And now it’s Navin Tyagi, general secretary of the UP unit of Hindu Mahasabha, a right wing outfit, who has joined the list of politicos with bizzare quotes.
Following his statement, quite a few celebrities slammed him on Twitter for his remark.

The PM promises us a modern India. Hindu Mahasabha to move Supreme Court to declare item girls, whatever that may mean, as prostitutes.

Dear Hindu Mahasabha, stop attacking women with your idiotic statements. And there's nothing Hindu about controlling individual liberty.

The demand by Navin Tyagi is that actresses performing item numbers in films wearing "skimpy" outfits be branded as prostitutes, sparking an outrage.
