Hyderabad: Justice P. Naveen Rao of the Hyderabad High Court has ordered the director of the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences to keep out the head of the cardio-thoracic department from the examination scheduled for two PG medical students.
The judge granted the interim order in two petitions by Dr Jyotindra Singh and Dr Rudra Pratap Mahapatra seeking a direction to the authorities that some other HoD be made in-charge for their ensuing practical examinations other than the head of the cardiothoracic department.
Dr Singh alleged that Professor R.V. Kumar, the HoD, has demanded Rs 10 lakh as bribe to clear his practical examination and has even threatened that he will be failed in the examination if not paid the amount. He had deposited Rs 2.5 lakh in the professor’s bank account between January and July this year.
He said though a complaint was made to the police, ACB and Nims authorities, no one responded to it. The HoD in turn lodged a complaint against Dr Jyotindra Singh alleging that the amount was deposited in his account in a pre-planned manner to malign him and also sought action against him.
Dr Rudra Pratap in his plea alleged that the HoD has indulged in malpractices and pressure tactics and prayed to the court to direct the authorities to conduct an independent investigation.
Keeping in view the background of the case, where the petitioners and the respondent professor are at loggerheads, the judge felt that it would be proper to issue a direction to ensure that the composition of examiners should not include the concerned HoD. The examinations are scheduled to be held hereafter and the judge accordingly ordered the director.
