Activists, public, victims rally ahead of December 7 Kiss of Love
It can break the base of moralistic conditioning
kochi: Victims, activists and common public, who shared the angst against moral policing, came together here on Thursday to discuss the socio-cultural and political dimensions of ‘Kiss, power and public place’ at a seminar conducted by the organizers of Kiss of Love.
The seminar held at the Nalanda auditorium was a curtain raiser to the Kiss of Love event scheduled to take place here on December 7.
Rajesh and Rashmi, who have been tortured by the Alappuzha police for sitting together at a public place without signs of a married couple, recounted their experience.
“Many rallied behind us to express their support. But I realise that they supported us only because we are a married couple. I doubt if we were just friends or lovers, nobody would have come forward to support us,” Rajesh said.
Jeevan Job Thomas, writer, who began the discussions, said, “the seeds of morality are sown in the primary school itself and we should have a culture where boys and girls are allowed to sit together in class rooms. It can break the base of moralistic conditioning,” he said.
