IMG Bharata, Emaar lands under Telangana scanner
The TDP government had allotted 850 acres of prime land in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: The rivalry between Chief Ministers K Chandrasekhar Rao and N Chandrababu Naidu is set to intensify further as the Telangana government is planning to seek a CBI probe into land allotments to IMG Bharata and Emaar in Hyderabad during Mr Naidu’s nine-year rule earlier.
The Telangana government had recently decided to constitute two House committees to probe the alleged irregularities in land allotments during the Congress’ rule from 2004 to 2014.
However, it now wants to rope in the CBI to probe corruption allegations against Mr Naidu. The Telangana Cabinet is expected to approve the proposal soon, urging the Centre to order a CBI probe on alleged land scams in Hyderabad during Mr Naidu’s rule.
The Telugu Desam Party government had allotted 850 acres of prime land in the city to IMG Bharata in 2003 for a discounted price of just Rs 50,000 per acre though it was a caretaker government then. It had also allotted 535 acre of prime land to Emaar in 2001.
If the Centre fails to act on its request, the Telangana government is planning to move either the High Court or the Supreme Court seeking a CBI probe.
