KOZHIKODE: The home department has deputed a Crime Branch team headed by S.P. Ramachandran to investigate the LKG student sexual abuse case at Darul Huda English Medium School at Parakadavu. Malappuram Crime Branch DySP Mohanachandran will be the investigation officer while Mr Ramachandran will have a supervisory role.

The Crime Branch team  met the present investigation officers, DySP Nadapuram, Prajeesh Thotathil and Circle Inspector Suresh Kumar and collected all the case records pertaining to the case on Thursday.

Mr Mohanachandran said that they had  just started to study the case records and would prepare an action plan accordingly.

The present investigation team has almost completed the investigation  and  picked up two accused who are inmates of a destitute home adjacent to the school which was run by the same school management.

The government took the decision to hand over the case to the Crime Branch despite the opposition from the girl’s family members and the action committee members, who had expressed full faith in the present local police investigation team.

Only the school management had found fault with the present team and had been reiterating that bus cleaner Muneer was the original accused in the case.

The government later clarified to the family that the decision to hand over the case to the CB was taken after some senior police officials had a difference of opinion in the case.

The efforts of some police officials to scuttle the case had been made public. Police had to let go Muneer after a public outcry against the efforts of the school management and a section of police officials to plant Muneer as the accused in the case came to light.
