Hyderabad: The first phase of Andhra Pradesh’s new capital will be completed by 2019, ahead of the next general elections. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will try to showcase the buildings completed in the first phase to the people of AP to win the elections for a second time.
Mr Naidu, meanwhile, alleged that politicians were behind the Red Sanders smuggling mafia. Speaking to reporters on Friday, Mr Naidu revealed that the first phase of the capital, with key government buildings, along with the infrastructure related to social life, would be complete by 2019. He also said that the Vijayawada airport would be converted into a full-fledged international airport in the next six months.
“AP is facing several challenges and we don’t have a capital now. Vijayawada has been selected as the capital as it is in the central part of the state and accessible to all. A capital needs social life. We are working on making the Vijayawada airport fully operation in the next six months,” he said.
Mr Naidu added that by 2025, AP would be one among the top three states in the country. “By 2019 we will make AP a drought-free state. In the first phase of the capital, the government buildings will be completed,” Mr Naidu said, adding that AP will soon get special category status.
“There are politicians behind Sanders smuggling. We are trying to stop the smuggling and earn revenue through the auction,” he said.
