Celebrating X’mas with a noble deed each day
Celebration does not mean cutting cakes alone
Kochi: Hoping to spread the Christmas spirit over the month rather than confine it to merely a day, staff of the Nirmala Training Centre for Exceptional Children in Kakkanad have decided to do one good deed every day of the month leading up to X-mas Day, December 25.
Each morning, lots are drawn to choose the good deeds written on pieces of paper with a related symbol and jumbled together.
All staff, from the most senior to the junior-most must complete the assigned task before evening.
Once they have accomplished it, they are expected to hang the symbol of the task given on a Christmas tree in the staff room.
“Celebration does not mean cutting cakes alone. Helping the poor can also bring you joy. We’ve nearly 30 staff here and that means we can do 30 noble deeds each day.
If it really touches the life of someone or helps them in any way, we feel blessed,” said the centre’s principal, Sister Serena.
“The campaign started on December 1. My task on Thursday was to help a poor person and had a ‘star’ as its symbol. Today I was assigned to do a generous act and the symbol given was ‘1’.
I’m happy I could put both the ‘star’ and ‘1’ on the Christmas tree. By December 25, I’m sure the tree will be decorated with the symbols put up by all the staff,” said Ms Durga K S, a speech therapist at the institute.
