How Vidhu Vinod Chopra helped Aamir Khan
PK producer gave Aamir Khan a tip that helped him essay his character in the film
Mumbai: While fans are curious about Aamir Khan’s character in PK, the actor has revealed that it was producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra who helped him impart a unique touch to the role. Apparently, it was on a rare visit to the sets that Vidhu shared a tip that helped Aamir add a quirky edge to his portrayal.
“We were doing the final look test for PK at Mehboob Studio and Vidhu Vinod Chopra landed on the sets — he usually doesn’t visit the sets. He saw one of the takes and said, ‘Why don’t you do the same thing without blinking?’ That time it didn’t make sense to me, but we tried it and when we saw the shot on the monitor, we loved it. It was a big cue Vinod gave me to get into the character.
By and large I don’t blink in the film, unless in a few situations where I get emotional. I’ve worn green lenses for the film, which made not blinking tougher, because when you wear lenses, you tend to blink more often,” Aamir said. He also added that yet another quirk added to the physicality of his character was making his ears stand out: “My ears do pop out in real life, but a device was used behind my ears to make them stand out even more (in the film).”
The actor added, “I am not a trained actor, so the process each time (for every role) is different for me. What is most important for me is to get into the head of the character. Once that is done, everything else follows,” he said.
