Kozhikode: The syndicate meeting of Calicut University on Saturday  decided to form a committee to check  the loopholes, if any, in  awarding PhD.

The committee will recommend ways and methods to arrest plagiarism and streamline the process. The committee will comprise members of the syndicate and research academic council.

The decision came in the backdrop of the allegation of plagiarism against Kerala University  Pro-Vice-Chancellor Dr Veeramanikandan who had his PhD from the CU.

The meeting decided to review the entire PhDs  awarded by the university since 2006, which was also available on the computer system.

The demand was raised by Mr T.N Prathapan MLA and the meeting approved it. But in the afternoon session, with the absence of the MLA, the meeting revoked the decision which they had taken a few hours earlier.

The syndicate  also decided to put on hold the notification inviting appointments to the post of directors for distance education, Academic Staff College, college development council and physical education. Vice-Chancellor Dr M. Abdul Salam and other members were present at the meeting.
