Car overturned near Sankagiri in Salem district due to which mechanics died on spot
Salem: Two young car mechanics, who went on a test drive, died on the spot when the car overturned near Sankagiri in Salem district on Saturday. Six other mechanics travelling in the car suffered grievous injuries and are being treated at the Erode government hospital, the police said.They said 25-year-old A. Karthik and 19-year-old M. Vijay, who were working as mechanics in an automobile workshop at Kuppanur near Sankagiri, died on the spot when the car they had repaired, suddenly overturned during a test drive.
Around 1 pm on Saturday, Karthik was fixing mechanical problems in a Tata Sierra car when the vehicle started making screeching noise.Immediately, he and nine other mechanics at the workshop decided to test drive the vehicle to identify the cause of the noise.After driving for about 4 km, Karthik was returning to the workshop when he swerved the car to avoid hitting a sand heap on the roadside.
The car immediately turned turtle, killing Karthik and Vijay on the spot. Eight other mechanics suffered injuries and were rushed to the Sankagiri government hospital.
However, two of them were discharged after treatment while six others are now undergoing treatment.
